U16 Tridents Claim National Championship while Aqua finish 4th

Our U16 Tridents have secured the Clubs third straight U16 National Title yesterday in Rotorua. Our team had an incredible final against a very strong North Harbour Maroon team. The team got off a quick start with goals to Lauren Batchelor, Millie Quin, Holly Gardner and Lucia Partigilani. The team kept the momentum to take a 7-3 lead into the final six minutes. However, North Harbour were not ready to give up and scored 5 goals in 4 minutes to take an 8-7 lead. Holly Gardner secured a crucial ball under on the opposition goalie, and with two quick passes Millie Quin had the game level at 8-8. With just 36 seconds left on the clock, Millie Quin again lobbed the ball past the Goalkeeper for a 9-8 lead. 30 seconds of frantic defence later, our Tridents had secured the title! It was a game worthy of a final and we are very proud of our girls! They had a great tournament and deserve their Gold Medals. A huge thank you to coaches Angie Winstanley Smith and Hamish MacDonald along with super-manager Gerry Whitley! Congratulations to Millie Quin who was named MVP of the Tournament.

Our Aqua team also had an incredible tournament. After a tough pool round, winning three tight games they moved on to the top eight, where they beat Waitakere 3-2 to secure a spot in the Semi Finals. They then pushed our Tridents all the way through three periods of the game, before falling away in the final quarter. They had a tough Semi Final v North Harbour where they showed their potential with a 5-4 second half. In the Bronze Medal game, it was within reach the entire match, before the last couple of minutes where Mountfort Park showed their experience to secure a bronze medal. It was a great run for this team who showed how much talent we have in this club! A huge thank you to coaches Hamish, Angie and manager Marcelle Jackson.

This was the clubs fourth National Championship since our foundation. A big thank you to U16 Co-ordinator Deb Yates for all her hard work!

Our attention now turns to the Division 2 U16 Championships in Wellington where we wish Kirsten Hudson and her White team good luck! They have started the Tournament with a win against Canterbury!
